林昶佐,一個跨足政治圈的搖滾巨星,一個不嘴砲的音樂人、一個理念的實踐者。熟悉他的人都叫他Freddy,曾帶領閃靈樂團走向國際重金屬舞台,也是大港開唱的創辦人,活躍於音樂與文化領域。現在,他是一位新晉立委,致力人權、環保、文化政策、轉型正義等公共議題運動,更創組新政黨「時代力量」,試圖在台灣政治圈中為不同於兩種政黨顏色的聲音開創出對話的管道。從搖滾音樂的抽象創作到社會群體的實質貢獻,本片跟隨這位知名重金屬音樂人踏入政壇的步履,與他一同走訪世界、會見達賴喇嘛、參加川普就職典禮,同時在台灣境內致力耕耘,以第三方的視角,看林昶佐如何透過他的經歷蛻變,並站上前線,試圖為台灣民主寫下全新篇章。

Metal Politics Taiwan tells the story of a metamorphosis. The singer from the internationally famous heavy metal band ChthoniC, Freddy Lim, has just become a freshly elected member of Taiwan’s parliament, sitting on committees for National Defense and Foreign Affairs. The film accompanies this rock star politician for his first year in political office. We meet the Dalai Lama and attend the inauguration of US President Donald Trump. We experience diplomatic turbulence created by China’s claim to rule the island. Freddy Lim is on the front line, trying to create a new kind of democratic identity for Taiwan. But he still occasionally puts on his face paint and sings in a diabolical voice at the front of his black metal band. But strangely, the two worlds are coming together.

馬可・威姆斯(Marco Wilms),1966年出生於德國,2004年在Discovery Campus Master School開發了國際紀錄片聯合製作“量身定制的夢想”,2005年-2006年DEFA基金會獎學金,2007年EDN投球研討會講師Lissabon,電影節DOCLISBOA,2011年泰國曼谷Thammasat大學和Kasem Bundit大學的客座講師,2012年TUTOR前東方藝術館紀錄片研討會在以色列國防軍舉行。

在《奇蹟小鎮》中一探馬克.霍根坎普所創造出來名為馬爾文科的奇幻世界。馬克有次在酒吧外和五名男子起了衝突,而遭毆打至嚴重昏迷、腦傷。之後,馬克在他的庭院打造出一個二戰時期的城鎮,以1/6比例尺呈現;城鎮中住的人偶各個代表他的親朋好友-。他用相機拍攝這個城鎮裡的故事與人情味,每張相片的紀錄都十分逼真、寫實。在這樣製作與拍攝的過程中,馬克踏上了他的療程之旅,慢慢改善手眼協調,修復那次毆打後的心靈創傷。之後,馬克和他精心製作的城鎮漸漸為人所知,紐約一間頗具聲望的美術館就決定為之規畫一場展覽。一夕間,馬克的療程突然變成了「藝術」,迫使他做出選擇,到底該繼續待在馬爾文科的安全虛幻世界裡,還是面對他自受傷後就一直逃避的現實生活呢?

"Marwencol" is a documentary about the fantasy world of Mark Hogancamp. After being beaten into a brain-damaging coma by five men outside a bar, Mark builds a 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. Mark populates the town he dubs "Marwencol" with dolls representing his friends and family and creates life-like photographs detailing the town's many relationships and dramas. Playing in the town and photographing the action helps Mark to recover his hand-eye coordination and deal with the psychic wounds of the attack. When Mark and his photographs are discovered, a prestigious New York gallery sets up an art show. Suddenly Mark's homemade therapy is deemed "art", forcing him to choose between the safety of his fantasy life in Marwencol and the real world that he's avoided since the attack.

在外西凡尼亞有個煤礦小鎮彼得里拉,一位曾經在那工作的礦工搖身變為藝術家、參與社會運動。他利用藝術和荒謬的呈現方式,來阻止當地政府拆除具有歷史意義的老舊礦業建築。他不僅僅想要維護家鄉的特色與歷史足跡,也想要阻止社區一發不可收拾的分崩離析。

In Petrila, a coal mining town in Transylvania, an ex-miner turned artist and activist uses art and absurdism to stop local authorities from demolishing the historic buildings of the oldest coal mine in the country. His quest is not only to preserve the history and the identity of his hometown, but also to find new ways of keeping the community from irreversibly falling apart.

安德烈・達斯卡勒斯古在十幾歲時於家鄉擔任電台DJ,而後移居布加勒斯特,在電影大學學習聲音和編輯,同時擔任BBC World Service Romania的自由編輯和音響工程師,並在許多電影中工作,包括在弗朗西斯.福特.科波拉的《青年無青年》一片當中,擔任傳奇編輯沃爾特默奇的助理。此後,他繼續製作自己後來獲獎的短片《飛》,接著與康斯坦丁和艾琳娜合作拍攝紀錄片,這部電影獲得數個國際影展提名、獎項,獲得了全世界的認可。 Planeta Petrila是他的第二部長篇紀錄片。

岳明與亮亮走在一座山裡,兩個人走在看似同樣的路徑卻在不同的時間點上,兩個陶瓷娃娃看似一對卻被不同的人擁有,他們在山林裡呼應著彼此,它們(陶瓷)也是,山林的空氣逐漸濕冷,他們的關係也漸漸交織,看似沒有關係的彼此卻吃了彼此,這不是一個殺人事件,卻是國族之間,難割捨的歷史糾結。

¨ This is not a murder.¨

Yueh-Ming brought an old-fashioned suitcase walking in the mountains. He wore an overcoat, and one of his hands held a clay doll. He was at ease and just looked like any other ordinary person. Liang Liang was in a red suit, and also held a clay doll in her hand. Both of them were walking in the seemingly same path but in different timeline, and the dolls they held looked like a pair. The man and the woman called each other in the mountains, so did the clay dolls. It was getting cold and humid, and their relationship was getting intertwining. Those who seemingly had nothing to do with each other ate each other. This was not a murder, however, the uncutting historical tangle between nation and nation.

張博洋,台灣高雄人,畢業於崑山科技大學,以實驗影像、繪畫、底片攝影等創作為主,長期關注於記憶的存在與消亡的斷面、通過其藝術形式將之賦予哲思與詩意,其影像作品曾於法國、西班牙、美國等國展出。作品《活在地方》( je est un autre / I as the other )曾於白俄羅斯當代藝術中心播映。

由六個錄像作品所組成,這六個錄像作品,是訴說花蓮一條河川-美崙溪上游至下游的人文景緻。我命令自己靜止不動,或坐或站立於河床間,光線由明亮轉暗,當我和當前人文景致面面相對,藝術行為交融其中,靜謐中我發現-「我即是風景。」

Comprising six video works, the video works describe the rich cultural landscape of Hualien from the upper to the lower streams of Meilun River. I told myself to stay still, or to sit or stand by the riverbed. Light turned to dark. As I stood facing the cultural landscape before me, within a synthesis of art and movement, in the silence, I found that—"I was the scenery."

藝術家劉曉蕙透過行為、錄像的形式創作,關注自然環境和創作主體間的語言問題,亦在創作過程中回返創作主體,使作品命題自我浮現。一如海德格在《藝術作品的本源》中所論:「作品晃動並維持住大地本身,並將其置入一個世界的開放領域中。作品使大地是大地……把本質上自我封閉的大地帶入開放的領域。」(The Origin of the Work of Art, p30-31)。

全球海上商品的流動蒙著一層神秘的面紗,它們是不斷增長的物流景觀的一部分,這是一個由廊道、環結和樞紐構成,並且跨足領土和政治秩序的全球基礎設施網絡。就像宇宙維度中的暗能量和暗物質一樣,這些海洋流動是巨大且難以估算的(所有貨物的95%至少在海洋中交叉一次),其隱蔽和不可理解程度可見一斑。只有在那特殊的情況下,等待他們通過歷史的瓶頸缺口進入高雄,台灣最大的物流港口時,那躁動的全球航空公司艦隊被迫隔絕在其自然運作模式之外。這一切的複雜定義,形成了一種罕見的反結構運動。

The global maritime flows of commodities share the same enigmatic invisibility. They are part of the proliferating logistic landscapes, a network of global infrastructure existing out of corridors, knots and hubs, pervading territories and political orders. Like the dark energy and dark matter on a cosmic scale, these maritime flows are vast and massive (95% of all goods cross at least once the oceans) but hidden and incomprehensible. Only in odd situations – as while waiting for their passage through a historic bottleneck entrance to the biggest logistic harbor of Taiwan in Kaohsiung – the restless fleet of global carriers is forced to drop out of its natural mode of operation – the horizontal movement – a temporal parking lot for maritime trade vessels. This is a rare encounter of anti-structure, creating a liminal zone of fluid affiliation of meanings and identities – dissolving forces at work.

海希利西特(REICHRICHTER)是一個跨國創作的「後觀念」(post-conceptual)藝術家團體,由蕾貝卡.海希(Rebekka Reich)與馬可斯.利西特(Marcus Vila Richter)兩位藝術家組成,主要在德國科隆創作。他們在生涯中所累積的建築、舞蹈、攝影、電影製作等經驗,讓他們高度關注人類的生活空間、技術影像及其對社會的相互影響。

這是關於景觀的電影,也是關於空間的電影,是關於景觀如何引發了我們棲居的(物理的與精神)空間的異變的電影。它意欲成為這個時代的空間電影,成為一部史詩劇,成為對這個時代的總體地質構造的一種考察。我發明或改造了一些詞彙,用以達到我的意圖:考現學;廢墟學;空間破產;生活劇場-殘酷劇場-景觀劇場;軀體電影;新柏林牆-鐵幕;沒有難民營的難民,植物,幽靈,軟流層,暗能量...... 我盜用了大量的既有材料——現實的或電影的材料。盜用正是與歷史、以及與電影的歷史產生關係的方式,以此來構建一種“回聲電影”。這部電影畫面模糊,但思想清晰。它也實踐了“以分類學取代敘事”這一主張,以免落入“電影”這一形式的死亡陷阱。

This is a film about the landscape, a film about space, and a film about how the landscape led to a transformation in the (physical and spiritual) space we inhabit. It aims to be a spatial film for this period in time, a drama epic, and an examination of the overall geological structure of this period in time. I have invented or modified certain words to achieve my intentions: modernology; ruinology; spatial bankruptcy; theater of life–theater of brutality–theater of the landscape; body film; new Berlin wall–iron curtain; refugees without camps, plants, spirits, soft layers, dark energy... I have stolen a large quantity of existing material—real or filmic material. Theft is a way of relating to history and film history in order to construct an "echo film". The film is hazy in its image but clear in its thought. It also put into practice the idea of "replacing the narrative with taxonomy" to avoid falling into the death trap of the "film" form.

叢峰,中國獨立紀錄片導演。畢業於南京大學大氣科學系,先後在中國氣象局和《國際先驅導報》工作。印有詩集《那裡有一列我看不見的火車》、《一部雅俗共賞的文學作品謝謝我也這麼認為》。2005年回到甘肅古浪縣黃羊川,開始拍攝系列紀錄片“甘肅的義大利”,即《信仰》、《馬大夫的診所》和《未完成的生活史》。《地層1:來客》是叢峰導演2012年作品。

在印度和緬甸的邊界,位於那加蘭邦的帕科村莊,住著5000位村民,絕大多數都種稻米、過著自給自足的生活。眾人團結工作,一起處理梯田、種植樹苗、收成穀物、攀爬陡坡。在耕作的同時,他們總會唱起歌來;四季遞移,歌曲也隨之更迭,為平凡的日子增添了一抹魔力。他們歌頌愛,歌頌人與人之間密不可分的關係,像是友情、親情、整個村莊的情誼;由於彼此的存在,讓完整的複音得以迴盪於田野中。他們唱著愛情、田園與歌曲的故事,許許多多的事蹟就這樣成為了歌曲。「上下左右」記錄這群農夫一同在田園工作時創作的音樂,敘述他們有關愛與失去的故事。這也是u-ra-mi-li計畫的第一部劇情片,深入觀察音樂和勞動之間的關係。

Close to the India - Myanmar border is the village of Phek in Nagaland. Around 5000 people live here, almost all of whom cultivate rice for their own consumption. As they work in cooperative groups — preparing the terraced fields, planting saplings, or harvesting the grain and carrying it up impossibly steep slopes — the rice cultivators of Phek sing. The seasons change, and so does the music, transforming the mundane into the hypnotic. The love that they sing of is also a metaphor for the need for the other - the friend, the family, the community, to build a polyphony of voices. Stories of love, stories of the field, stories of song, stories in song. ‘Up Down & Sideways’ is a musical portrait of a community of rice cultivators and their memories of love and loss, created from working together on the fields. It is the first feature film from the u-ra-mi-li project, a larger body of work that looks at the connections between music and labour.

導演2017年畢業於世新大學新聞學系,大學畢業後沒有踏入媒體界從事新聞工作,隻身前往喜馬拉雅山腳下的尼泊爾擔任駐點長期志工,參與海外社區工作和學校教師培訓等,同時也透過鏡頭記錄在地生活。在當地長期駐點一段時間後,便發現學校大多數學生的父親長年在海外工作,一去就是十幾年,偶爾回家一次,薪水也並非穩定寄回養家,看著這些留在尼國的婦女和孩子,我不禁好奇,到底是什麼原因讓這些尼泊爾青壯年男人必須出走到海外當尼勞?賺取微薄但比在尼泊爾工作好一點的薪水,但卻要按耐住長期與妻小分離的痛苦,真的是比較好的選擇嗎?

After graduating from Shih Hsin University in 2017 as a graduate of the journalism department, Yi-Ling Liu decided not to follow the path of entering the news media workforce, instead she took on a journey to Nepal under the Himalayas on her own and served as a volunteer worker for a year, participating in overseas community work and helped training local school teachers, also capturing her exotic life through the lens. As time went by, Yi-Ling noticed that most students in the local school had fathers who worked overseas for a long period of time. They work for more than ten years on a regular basis, only returning home occasionally. Also, the salary was not always sent back to support their families. Looking at the Nepali women and children left behind, Yi-Ling could not help but wonder what the reason was for those young Nepali men to leave and work overseas as poor labors. Is it really a better choice to earn a meager but a slightly better salary than working in Nepal, but having to endure the pain of separating from your loved ones?

這是我的身體嗎?我是誰?作為精神與意念的載體,女人的身體,如何在每一個生命片刻間,與外在於自己的一切,拉扯、推擠、碰撞、交融?身體看似追著人心,只是皮囊或工具,但它確實擁有著記憶。累的身體、傷的身體、病的身體、胖的身體、看得見與看不見的身體、孕育生命的身體、衰退老化的身體……,妳認真看過自己的身體嗎?關於妳的事,埋藏在毛髮之間、皮膚肌理的深處、五臟六腑內裡,或者,在那上千萬條神經之中。無論妳是否已經遺忘,身體都記得。

本片採訪近三十位女性,以群像訪問內容穿插於片中各個段落,隱性地談論「生、老、病」的身體與生命歷程,透過她們的對話,看見不同的女性身體經驗,如同女性間的悄悄話、對話,呈現陰性與流動的調性。

Is this my body? Who am I? How does the woman's body, as the carrier of the spirit and the mind, in every moment in life, pull towards, push against, collide with and blend in with everything that is external to it? The body looks to be after the hearts of men, as merely skin or instrument, but she does have memories of her own. Exhausted body, wounded body, sick body, fat body, visible and invisible bodies, gestating body, declining and aging body... Have you ever taken a serious look at your body? Everything about you is buried between the hairs, in the depths of the texture of your skin, in your internal organs, or amid the tens of thousands of your nerves. The body remembers everything you may or may not have forgotten.

This film interviewed close to 30 women, tacitly discussing the experiences of bodies and lives through "life, aging and sickness", with contents of the group interviews interspersed between film segments, presenting the different experiences of the female body through their dialogue, exuding a fluid feminine tone, much like the secrets and conversations whispered across female locker rooms.

陳芯宜,電影導演。無論是紀錄片或劇情片,皆傳達對於時下社會環境的長期觀察,以及人物角色、生活處境的深入刻畫。更擅長利用魔幻寫實的手法,突顯現實社會的荒謬性,用以陳述更大的結構問題。作品風格流暢明快,常在嚴謹的架構中,展現細緻綿密的情感鋪陳、與難得的幽默感。其所拍攝的主題多與人文、藝術文化相關,作品曾入圍柏林影展、金馬獎等國內外影展獎項與參展邀請。2014年完成紀錄片《行者》,獲金馬獎、台北電影節「最佳紀錄片」提名、台灣國際紀錄片影展「國際競賽」提名,上映後更創下熱映三個月的佳績。

父域安魂曲為五章節式錄像作品,我戴著象徵父親死亡的頭骨面具,針對童年時交雜著夢與記憶等家庭私密奇觀現場探尋,藉由腦內影像回溯與意識催眠的方法,透過儀式化的扮演過程,親身重演幼年時與父親在黨國幽魂下種種放蕩不羈的奇幻經歷。

我運用影像的不連續性、分割畫面以及閃回蒙太奇形式與薄紗頻幕裝置,讓影像處在一種幽微曖昧的地帶間。而每一章節起始時的台語旁白,則是以母語般的親密姿態,催眠觀者拋開意識走入這場回憶與夢境之中。企圖以一種直視父域亡靈的姿態,讓過往的黑色回憶藉由我的身體重新復魅再生,進行一段屬於自我與父親的雙向安魂。

Requiem for the Dream of Father is a five-part video work. I put on a skull mask symbolizing the death of the father figure, exploring spectacular scenes private to the family through intertwining dreams and memories from childhood, and through a visual retrograde memory and hypnotized consciousness, I reenacted in person fantastic experiences of all kinds with the father under the ghost of the Party-State era, through a process of ritualized role-playing.

I adopted the use of image discontinuity, split screens and flashback montage on a thin chiffon screen to situate the images in a quiet space of lightness and ambiguity. The narration in Taiwanese at the beginning of each chapter is a gesture intimate as the sound of the native language. The hypnotized viewer enters the realm of memory and dreams, leaving their consciousness behind. The work attempts a look at the haunting spirit of the fatherland in the eye, allowing dark memories of time past to enrapture and be resurrected through the body, through the process of a two-way requiem between the self and the father.

「我在這裡沒有遇到靈魂,但我有我的故事要說。」

導演將在泰國曼谷隨機採訪關於鬼魅等超自然經歷,藉由敘事接龍的方式,把不同空間重新鏈接,探訪都市裡的邊緣地帶與異質場域所拍攝的影像,結合縫紉與拓撲學的概念,將三個不同地區的事件串連起來。企圖與曼谷居民共同進行一場屬於在地神秘傳說的影像實驗。

"I did not meet any spirits here, but I have my story to tell."

The director will interview people at random on their supernatural experiences with spirits in Bangkok, Thailand, and make new connections between the different spaces by way of the exquisite corpse method, to explore the images taken from the marginal and disparate areas in the city, linking events from three different regions through the ideas of sewing and topology. The work attempts to conduct a visual experiment on a mysterious local myth with the residents of Bangkok.

Through constant discipline and regulation, rituals, beliefs, bodies, man and God are all gradually moving towards a loss of their origins, land and interpersonal connections. Time is subject to finer divisions, with chains of relationships unable to catch up and left behind... presented in a freeze frame of the gaze. Men or God, all destruction and rebirth will encounter one another here, looking for a safe landing.

The film explores the vision behind the iconic American jazz record label. Since 1939, Blue Note artists have been encouraged to push creative boundaries in search of uncompromising expressions. Through current recording sessions, rare archive and conversations with iconic Blue Note artists, the film reveals an intimate perspective of a legacy that continues to be vital in today’s political climate.

The Film strives to transmit the values that jazz embodies and that Blue Note has been promoting since its inception: freedom of expression, equality, dialogue - values we can learn from and that are as relevant today as they were when the label was founded.

老嘉義人把後火車站舊月台倉庫這一個小區叫「磅亭」,貨物進出站都要過磅,似乎在意味著,「磅亭」永遠對著世界在衡量輕重緩急,錙銖必較。

四年前陳連鐘開始每天黄昏準時出現在老月台上,拉著二胡,在他兒時場景裡重新度量人間冷暖。如果說,他拉琴有什麼特別之處,那應該是,他比別人多出了一道手續:將琴弓牢牢地綁在手臂上,人與二胡便自然而然一起嵌入黃昏的月台上,形成了一種人間別緻的風情, 然後黃昏的月台音樂會就緩緩地拉開序幕。

The weight house of the abandoned railway depot was called “Pound Ting” by good old fellas in Chiayi City. As the name suggesting, Pound Ting had been always measuring, or checking up the great and small of everything in the world.

Four years ago, Mr. Liang Zhong Chen would report to the old Pound Ting, his childhood playground, during almost every sunset with his Er Hu (Chinese instrument). His duty, if there is any, is sort of “measuring”, “checking up”, or “recalling” the great and small of things as what the Pound Ting used to do. Moreover, the way he plays Er Hu is a little bit more complicated than others do. He has to tie up his arm with the bow tightly, then both of him and the instrument will embed naturally into the platform sunset, and a concert will just follow when all is set.

The Story of Adi Khavous, a musician and extraordinary artist who chose a vagabond lifestyle. Adi left home in Israel and now lives in Canada as a solitary immigrant and rock 'n' roll singer. The film depicts five years of Adi's journey and presents an alternative, off-beat way of life. In his lonesome life, Adi holds on to one dream: to break through as a musician.

This 5 years journey provides a glimpse into an extreme life of a unique artist. By the end of the film, as Adi turns 40, he has a big success in his life but not the one expected.

Filmed on location in the shire of Yilgarn. Hear from artist Gregory Pryor as he discusses the tough processes behind his work, Looking glass. The film has a prior version called "Gregory Pryor - The Yilgarn Chronicles" which is a 7-minute highlight version of the creating process of "Looking Glass". To fully demonstrate the complete process of the art-making, "Gregory Pryor - The Yilgarn Lacunae" is a re-edit version of director George Karpathakis. And the screening on CIADFF 2019 is an exclusive world premiere.

主要在晚上拍攝鏡頭。通過去除多餘的光線凸顯夜晚的地景。當天,藝術家希望由照亮的光線,強調黑暗的共鳴,並從氣候變化的陰霾中發現了這一點。

死樹的鹽盤是一個農業過度使用的證明,真正的議題聚焦於當今農業社區面臨的更複雜的挑戰。氣候變化,時序變化,經濟困難等新的挑戰,而技術只是他們都必須應對的少部分問題。「深夜粒子」的圖像品質源於導演彭谷瑞所希望呈現的電影紋理,其粗糙質地對比於當代電影,更顯西澳農業歷盡滄桑的動人。

Interviews with the local community acted as prompts for follow up site visits to shoot footage primarily at night. By removing excess definition and the light of day, the artist hopes that the fragments of what is spoken or illuminated in the darkness resonate more powerfully, as the issues involved need to be identified and accentuated from the encroaching gloom of climate change. Salt pans with dead trees are an overused image of what is really a much more complex set of challenges facing agricultural communities today. Climate change, generational change, economic hardship and new technologies are just a few of the other issues that they all must contend with. The painterly quality of Grain of Night stems from the background of artist Gregory Pryor, with the filmic texture aligning more to the manual marks of ink painting or watercolour than to the high definition output so prevalent in much film making today.

Creating Significance shows the viewer how mapping, naming and other processes help individuals to make 'the land' meaningful. The idea is developed that landscape is primarily a cultural construction, that we progress from the fact of 'land' to our concepts of 'landscape'.

8000 kilometers' road-trip journey through the outback to visit the home of Australia's forgotten Afghan cameleers.

Two Australian boys will undertake a camping and road trip across the continent to explore the land of the early Afghan Muslim cameleers and to visit their final resting place and say G’day to their resting souls.

Visiting the Cameleers will be a 50-minute documentary featuring three Aussie Muslim boys who, during their school holiday, go on a journey to explore the land of the early Afghan cameleers and to visit their final resting place. The boys will be accompanied by their parents, who will be the filming crew. The journey will be the longest camping/road trip made for this purpose, and is expected to take 14 days and cover 8,000 kilometers.

記憶的時間,如黃金般閃閃發亮。導演大一的時候買了一台傻瓜相機,但大多是出去玩的時候拍照,覺得自己和「人」的關係很疏遠。後來他找到爸爸的一部舊八釐米攝影機,修整後,他開始想:要拍什麼呢?第一個反應,就是把外婆的生活影像保存下來,那時他寒暑假都回外婆家。於是,拍了這部十六分鐘的無聲八釐米的片子。

Time in memory glitters as gold. The director bought a point-and-shoot camera when he was a freshman with which he took most of his pictures while out having fun, but later felt that his relationship with "people" have become distant. Later, he found an old 8mm film camera that belonged to his father. After fixing it up, he began to wonder: What shall I shoot? His first reaction was to preserve the images from his grandmother's life, as he usually went back to his grandmother's place for summer and winter vacations. That was how he made this 16-minute silent 8mm film.

導演記錄1997~2000年,嘉義市精忠一村拆遷前的最後光景。深入關注小學同學在這數年間的職業、婚姻變化。眷村子弟即便長大後出外打拼,仍存有一份對家園的孺慕之情,卻又因現實考量而最終必須捨棄;觀眾跟著脈脈注視著精忠一村行將消失的一磚一瓦。不時插入書寫節氣的字卡,似乎徐緩流露出對時移事往的薄暮時光的嗟吁。

The director records the final scenes before the demolition of Jingzhong Village 1 in Chiayi City from 1997 to 2000 and observes closely the changes to the careers and marriages of his elementary schoolmates during these years. Even as the children of the village worked hard out of the city after growing up, they continued to retain affections and yearning for their hometown, yet had to eventually give it up out of practical considerations. The audience follows the disappearance of Jingzhong Village 1 closely with their eyes through each brick and tile torn down. From time to time, a title card indicating the season in solar terms is inserted between the images, seeming to gradually reveal a quiet resignation towards the fading dusk of time shifting.

《超級禁忌》的敘事源自一本早年俗稱「小本」的黃色刊物,內容除了來自歐美、日本的盜版色情圖片,露骨的性愛描寫卻是如今讀來頗有韻味的白話文學體。由金士傑飾演的都會白領階級男性,在荒郊野外喃喃唸著書中情節,帶領我們逐步進入超現實的情慾場景。做為錄像裝置,《超級禁忌》一作企圖以重構/歪讀/幻想的策略帶領我們回到藝術家青少年時期的1980年代台灣。

Adapted from historical texts, the narrative in the two-channel video artwork Super Taboo came from a pornographic publication, which was previously known as “a small book” (xiaoben), with the same title. In addition to illegal copies of pornographic photos from Japan and Western countries, the undisguised description of erotic scenes is now a mesmerizing vernacular Chinese literature. In this video, the renowned actor Chin Shih-Chieh guides the viewers into a surreal erotic scene by playing the role of an urban white-collar worker who mutters the plots of the “small book” in his hands. Through the work Super Taboo, Su Hui-Yu leads us back to the 1980s when he was an adolescent in Taiwan.

According to a survey conducted by the Department of Health Bureau of Pharmaceutical Affairs, as of 2009, Taiwan has over 3,000,000 sleeping pill users.This seems to be an astonishing number but is actually a commonplace phenomenon. Many friends of mine have taken such medication. Insomnia has become a trendy epidemic. I used to take soporific drugs to help me sleep, but the emphasis is on the moments before sleeping rather than sleep itself.

《稍待片刻 The Upcoming Show》是一個特別電視節目的名稱,它展示了電視台停止播放節目後,那午夜後的神秘時刻。該節目的主角是從那些不受歡迎的電視頻道中所見角色中選出的。這件作品啟發自導演幾乎忘記的電視圖像,例如在電視早期的每個廣播日結束時出現的測試模式、低預算節目的圖像、混合干擾的信號,或在20世紀90年代來到台灣的頻道頻譜遠端的加密廣播頻段,以及有線電視的爆炸式增長。來自這些遙遠頻道的圖像通常是無光澤的,描繪著邊緣社會或成人主題,而這些電視現象的共同點則是那「等待的經驗」。

The Upcoming Show is the name of a special television program which presents the mysterious hours after midnight when television stations have stopped broadcasting. The show’s guests are chosen from among characters seen on unpopular television channels. Inspiration for the work comes from television images that I had almost forgotten, such as test patterns that appeared at the end of each broadcast day in the early era of television. Or images from low-budget programs, signals mixed with interference or encrypted broadcasts at the far end of the channel spectrum that came to Taiwan in the 1990s along with cable TV’s explosion of choices. Images from these distant channels were often dull, on the fringe, or adult themed. I feel a common denominator in these television phenomena is the experience of waiting.

The director, Andrea, is diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Fear for her unborn baby changes the eating habits in Andrea’s family and motivates her investigation of the sugar industry. With the obsession of a detective, she identifies the ties between multinational corporations, politicians and health care. The quest begins at Andrea’s kitchen table and continues worldwide over nearly five years.

20世紀的捷克藝術家茲德列克.里克爾(Zdeněk Rykr),以設計著名巧克力品牌Orion的圖像為著名,他的商業作品在早期就受到肯定。平時除了忙於商業委託的案件,里克爾同時積極投入當時的藝術運動,可惜的是,若作為前衛藝術家,他始終未獲得認同。安德里亞・楚克娃(Andrea Culková)透過記錄藝術家茲德列克.里克爾的生命歷程,企圖揭露當今藝術家與策展人普遍面臨的問題,如何在藝術語彙、生活方式和商業主義中取得平衡?

20th century Czech artist Zdeněk Rykr rose to fame for the designs he created for the renowned chocolate brand, Orion, thus gaining him recognition for his commercial work at an early stage of his career. In addition to frequently being commissioned for commercial artwork, Rykr was also actively involved in art movements. Despite this, he was never acknowledged as an avant-garde artist. Through documenting the life of Rykr, director Andrea Culková tries to uncover the common problem faced by today’s artists and curators: How does one strike a balance between artistic expression, lifestyle, and commercialism?

This film explores Lisa Forell’s landscape of life and it’s borders. A Brazilian artist of Czech - German descent, she was a woman ripped from family destiny by events in 1939 and challenged to define the boundaries of personal freedom all her life. Lisa Forell (1924) lives a sweet life full of obstacles and permanent challenges. She is gifted with the power to overcome crisis, social boundaries and borders in general. Now aged 85, she is able to look at her life objectively and without sentiment. How is it possible to define a badly lived life and a badly painted picture?

紀錄片製作人安德里亞・絲克娃發現到,就因為她太晚得知一個小小的錯誤,她的財產竟然遭到扣押。因此,她跟許多人一樣,陷入了欠債的危機。她開始在捷克新聞投稿一系列的文章,用她個人的角度以及調查的觀點,來探究捷克社會中的債務、債務追償、債務給付等的現象。她訪問了許多相關人士,像是欠債者、司法部長,甚至還參與討債人的會議;同時,也探究其他國家處理債務議題的措施。

One day, documentary filmmaker Andrea Culková learned that she faced attachment of assets because of a minor error that she learned about too late. She thus became one of the many people to find themselves caught in a debt trap. In her contribution to the Czech Journal series, Culková delves into an examination of the phenomenon of debt, debt recovery, and debt payments in Czech society from a personal as well as investigative viewpoint. She interviews various actors in the field, from debtors to the Minister of Justice, attends conferences of debt collectors, and explores how the issue is addressed in other countries.
